Our program is grounded in the science of reading, specifically focusing on the two key strands of alphabetic knowledge (phonics) and phonological awareness. Phonics teaches the relationship between letters and sounds, while phonological awareness helps children understand and manipulate the sounds in spoken language – both essential skills for reading development.

In what order are the letters introduced?
The ultimate goal of the 2's curriculum is exposure to the letters. Therefore, the letters are simply introduced in A-Z order. In the 3's curriculum, the letters are quickly introduced in A-Z order for initial exposure, and then the curriculum goes into a more detailed study of the letters, following the order of the Orton Gillingham approach. The 4's curriculum uses letter cycles, beginning with quickly introducing the letters A-Z order for initial exposure, then a more detailed study of the letters with 2 letters per week (following the order of the Orton Gillingham approach). The final cycle is a large letter review, followed by assessment and re-teaching.
Is there anything else I need to purchase for this curriculum?
The curriculum provides everything you need to get started. However, some activities may suggest using common household items like playdough, flashlights, or textured materials. Each curriculum includes a materials list.
